Handheld Heat Sealer FAQ

What is a heat sealer? Do you have to use one when using moisture barrier bags? We get asked a lot of questions about this particular piece of machinery. Today, we answer many frequently asked questions about our handheld heat sealers.

What is a constant heat sealer?

A constant heat sealer has jaws that will remain at a constant temperature throughout use. These sealers are most suited to sealing thicker materials such as barrier foil liners and laminates. The high temperature and consistent heat facilitate heat transfer through the various substrates of a multi-layer laminate. consistent

Do I have to use a heat sealer with my moisture barrier bags?

Yes. For moisture barrier materials to seal correctly, you must use a constant handheld heat sealer. Barrier Bags are designed for climatic protection, which is only achievable with a fully hermetic heat seal. Your product now benefits from protection from moisture vapor, atmospheric gasses, elements and more.

What are the key benefits of using one of the heat sealers?

Our industrial heat sealers offer a lightweight (3.3 lbs), one-person operation with minimal heat transfer to the handles. The bars provide an easy-to-see crimped seal, which creates an accurate and precise seal. And finally, the temperature can be adjusted between 230-500℉, meaning that you can use this device for multiple barrier foil materials.

How do you use a heat sealer?

Before using your handheld heat sealer, check that the sealing bars are clear of debris and that the temperature gauge is correct. Once the heat sealer is plugged in, you will see a red light, meaning that the device is on. When your desired temperature is reached, a green light will appear. Place the sealable material between the sealing bars and clamp them together. Wait 2-4 seconds before releasing the sealing bars, and then continue with any areas of the material you wish to seal. (Actual sealing times may vary depending on the materials used.)

Can I use an Impulse sealer for moisture barrier foil?

No. For barrier foil to provide an airtight seal, you need the constant heat that our handheld heat sealer provides. An impulse sealer will not work for moisture barrier bags and foil because they do not keep a constant temperature. These sealers work on a timer, and the bars immediately begin to lower. When sealing barrier foil, the heat must transfer through the Polyester and aluminum layers to weld the inner Polyethylene layers, thus requiring higher and more consistent heat.Do you have any other questions about our heat sealers?
